CLOTH HALL, SMARDEN
The Cloth Hall is a very well known and highly regarded hall house in the heart of Smarden Village which dates back to the 15th Century and is grade II* listed.
Prior to our clients occupation of the site, the property was lacking regular maintenance and the attention it deserves.
The house in it’s existing form had a lean-to extension poorly constructed in the late 20th century providing a small kitchen which served the whole house.
Our client’s brief was to create an in-keeping extension that would provide a proportionate kitchen / eating space better suited to the size of the host dwelling.
After a lengthy consultation with the Local Authorities conservation and planning department, and English Heritage our proposed scheme was agreed and permission was given.
Kent Design Studio worked very closely with a local specialist heritage contractor to ensure that the detail was correct and that the clients brief was met completely.
The end result is a stunning heritage family home which now enjoys access and views over the properties substantial gardens and countryside beyond.
